In the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, a handful of geniuses such as Michael Faraday, James Clerk Maxwell, Thomas Edison, and Nikola Tesla laid the foundation for another handful of geniuses in the twentieth century to manipulate the forces of electromagnetic radiation for long distance communication. This transmission of radiated signals that could pass through the air and the vacuum of space shortly became known colloquially as "radio." A few noteworthy Italian geniuses who pioneered the use of radio waves included Temistocle Calzecchi Onesti, Guglielmo Marconi, and Enrico Fermi. This relatively recent technological revolution has produced inventions that have become powerful agents of change, whether they be good or bad.
